Whitehorse to Watson Lake

Today started out like:

and ended with:

But before the hail, we had probably the best days riding so far! the scenery was not as mind blowing as Alaska, but the weather was perfect! warm and sunny, ranging between 12 and 25 degrees. And the roads undulated nicely and there were a fair few really nice corners.

We left Whitehorse after a coffee at about 9am and had a great ride through the hills that would break out into great vistas across the lakes to snow tipped mountains. We followed the lake to the left for most of the morning, until we crossed it just after a fuel stop.

We saw a white tail Buck on the highway, I caught him on the helmet cam, but as usual everything looks way smaller than it does in real life.

Whitetail Buck
We also ran into more roadworks today - just for a change, yet another pilot car:
Yet another Pilot car to follow - you can;t make it out - but there is a bike rack on the back to ferry cyclists.
We rolled into Watson Lake about 2pm after 440km, and checked into our digs.

Watson Lake has an interesting feature, During WW2 when the Alaskan highway was being built, one of the road workers put a signpost up from his home town because he was a bit home sick, and the trend caught on. Now there are literally thousands of street and suburb signs plastered upon poles in park. The most impressive ones are from Germany. I mean - how did they even get them here? they wouldn't fit in a suitcase! I did see one that had been cut into 4, and bolted back together. Ingenious. but others are whole...
