Durango to Alamosa

Short day today, only 240km from Durango to Alamosa. We slept in late-ish, and rolled out of Durango about 9am.

Leaving town, we rode through the mountain pass from Durango, and ended up in the beautiful town called Pagosa Springs. There were rivers, mountains, beautiful forests, and babbling rivers.
It was Sunday, and there were people out everywhere, young kids with inner tubes heading for the river, and middle aged guys with fly rods doing the same.

As it was only 240km we did the whole stretch in one shot without a break. The scenery was amazing, it was great to be out of the desert and back into the mountains. The mountain pass from Bayfield to Piedra was particularly good!

Best part is, no 30+ degree heat, 20 degrees in the pass, and 28 in the valley! sweet!

We arrived in Alamosa with absolutely no idea of where we are going or staying tomorrow. We are having a conference call with the surgeon who is seeing Zima for her suspected torn ACL. fingers crossed there is nothing wrong with the tendon and it's just a sprain or something. Pretty sure our other vet tore it while examining her ... pretty angry about that.

We don't really know what to do and feel upset, angry, and hopeless about it. There is nothing we can do from here except facilitate. She has already been to the vet for chewing her tail which is a sign of fretting.
We have been discussing cutting the trip short by two weeks which I think we will do. Running the numbers, we are 14 days from our goal if we ride everyday.

  1. So sorry to hear about your pup - nothing worse than having that worry on the mind... :(

    1. Yeah - its been pretty terrible. She'll be ok, but it's hard when the house sitter sends you videos of her not being able to put her foot on the ground, shes not been eating, and chewing her tail (fretting) and stuff...
