So the whole point of coming into this particular part of Montana, was to ride a stretch of road going through the Glacier national Park called the "Going to the Sun Road" or just 'The Sun Road' for short.
The road winds it's way up through the mountains of Glacier National Park, right up to the Logan Pass, before winding down to the valley floor via a road cut into the very side of the mountain range.
There are no guard rails, and only a small stone wall that would definitely not stop you from going over the edge should you be stupid enough to have an accident.
The road and scenery really brings a lump to your throat - which is actually your sphincter! some of the drop offs are really scary, especially sitting up high on the bike which affords you the position to see over the wall right to the valley floor some several thousand feet below.
It is a fucking amazing experience, and I would definitely class it as a MUST see.
We just took one bike (mine) because it was $25 for one bike to go inside the park, and Megan was not sure she would be able to not freak out over the heights. As it was, I was getting the squeeze from the knees on my hips, the grip on my jacket got tighter, and kept hearing tiny 'oh fuck's from the back whenever we went through some of the gnarlier bits.
There are a couple of tunnels where the road is cut through some of the outcrops, and there are several water falls flowing both over and under the road.
It would be worth coming all the way to America just to ride the road, and do some hiking and/or camping inside the park.
anyway - here are the pics!

That road looks amazing. Something you would see in a Bond car chase scene, but without the out of control Aston Martin coming head on!
ReplyDeleteThere were a few of those don't worry, But they were Dodge Rams not Astons! Lucky you have a bit of room to manoeuvre on the bike.
DeleteAwesome road. Scenery looks amazing.
ReplyDeleteTook the words out of my mouth, Ben. Bond all the way!
